It was yesterday but long ago. Everything ended, and everything began.
The ship was trustworthy, the best friend I had. Wires hung loose in front of the bleak blackness of the vacuum all around. My monitors hummed with life overhead. Blue and white flowed in time, and the ship pressed onward through the desolation. The rough green trail informed me I was still here too.
Despite the buttons, dials, and gauges everywhere, the ragged map in my hand showed me where I most wanted to go, where I had to go.
The solemn gas giant beyond the window hung amongst the dancing starlight. A deep breath was my best tool, but what was it compared to what was ahead?
My fist balled above the flashing pink and purple button. Not with rage, that had gone, but with determination. Steady, it raised and smashed down. The light colors changed to fluorescent green. It was time to go.
The dials raged against their limits, and my monitor flatlined. Light streaked around as I flew past it. All colors of it in long streams, as if it were everywhere at once.
Then everything stopped. The gas giant hung before me again. Finally, the gauges settled back in their remembered places.
I consulted the map once more. Yes, everything was the same. But everything was different.
